What is counselling?

Counselling is a discussion with a trained professional which typically helps people to:

  • Gain professional support and expertise in dealing with their concerns
  • Cope or deal with those circumstances in a constructive and positive way
  • Clarify what they are wanting for the future
  • Develop a plan for moving in the direction they want to go

Different people seek different outcomes from counselling. Because of this, it is important that you talk to me about what you would like to achieve from counselling.

To benefit most from counselling:

  • Come with a positive expectation that counselling will be helpful
  • Speak openly about your ideas of what will help
  • Draw also on your own strengths, ideas and support network
  • Realise that change often requires practice and perseverance
  • Give feedback to me freely about your experience of counselling

You can choose to end counselling at any time though I will often recommend a certain number of sessions based on what has been helpful to others with similar concerns.

People seek counselling for a wide range of issues.  I can assist with:

  • Overcoming personal problems
  • Life transitions
  • Conquering depression
  • Defeating anxiety & panic attacks
  • Trauma recovery
  • Resolving interpersonal conflict
  • Enhancing communication
  • Self development
  • Effective decision making
  • Accepting and coping with loss
  • Overcoming sleeping difficulties
  • Stress management
  • Acceptance and clarity of sexuality
  • Reconciling workplace issues

Fees and appointments

I am available for appointments in Wheelers Hill and Bayswater North. I also offer telehealth sessions, on the phone or Zoom. Sessions are 50 minutes in duration and cost $190. Fees are due at the completion of each session and you can pay by cash or bank transfer. Unfortunately, debit and credit card facilities are not available.

Medicare provides rebates to clients seeing a psychologist in relation to a recognised psychological condition. Clients must be referred by a GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician, who must also review progress after 6 sessions with the psychologist. Medicare provides a rebate of $96.65 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. This means that for eligible clients, counselling with me equates to $93.35 per session.
